In the middle of the road, on a very sunny day,
A gust of wind came and blew me away.
And where it took me I never will tell,
But when I came back I went very high,
And I fell,
From the sky.
I fell into a stream of swiftly flowing waters.
Soon I was approached by a baffled school of otters.
They told me that the droplets from my splash had gone;
Far up into the heavens and made
Constellations
In the night sky.
With a laugh like a tinkerbell I told them why
New constellations had appeared in the sky:
It wasn’t from the droplets that my splash sent high,
But from a maiden’s eyes
When she cried.
Like little turtledoves with their heads cocked to the side,
The furry otters asked me why the maiden cried.
I told them it was from a gust of wind she lost,
That blew away from her grasp
Then burst,
And vanished.
Now like a lizard basking in the sun,
I lie under the stars and forget where I have gone.
But when I see the constellations in the [night] sky
I remember where the wind took me,
And how she cried,
For her gust of wind that took me,
She cried.
In the middle of the road, on a very sunny day,
A gust of wind came and blew me away.
And where it took me I never will tell,
But when I came back I went very high,
And I fell,
From the sky.
